It's important to know that surf clubs rely heavily on volunteers and surf isn't a 'drop and leave' sport. All of our volunteer Sunday coaches rely on parent help to ensure things run smoothly and safely. You don't need to be a strong swimmer or have any surf experience at all, just a smile and a willingness to help out.
To participate in the Junior Surf Programme your child needs to be a member of the Pāpāmoa Surf Club. All Junior Surf members must be accompanied by an Associate Member (parent/guardian/caregiver).
PSLSC Membership Fee = $25 per child
Junior Surf Programme Fee = $60 per child
AGE GROUPS
- Kids are split into age groups from under 6s to under 14s.
- Their group is determinded by their age as at 30 September, e.g. if your child turns 7 before 30 Sept, they will be in the under 8 age group, if they turn 7 after 30 September, they will be in the under 7 age group.

Stay behind at the end of each Sunday session and enjoy the sausage sizzle with your fellow surf club families. The BBQ will be held outside the Junior Surf training room where families can relax on our terraced area.
All proceeds from the sausage sales go back into the running of the club - thank you for your support.

The Board Fundamentals Programme runs before the Junior Surf season and focuses on building essential board skills for under 10 and above athletes. It’s also a great starting point for under 11–14 beginners to learn knee boarding basics, with under 9s considered case by case. By the end, participants will have improved confidence and a strong foundation to progress, including into the Ocean Development Programme.

Friday Night Race Nights run throughout the summer season and are open to all Junior Surf members Under 8 and above. These fun, supportive evenings give kids the chance to practise beach events (flags and sprints) and water races (run-swim-run, board, and diamond) in preparation for carnivals, with the flexibility to choose which races they enter on the night. Participants heading into the water must wear a rashie or hi-vis vest (wetsuits optional), and Under 10+ swimmers must hold their 200m safety badge. Parent support is essential to help run the events, with volunteers needed for a range of roles on the night.
