Hello Summer – Stay Safe at Papamoa Beach

1 Dec

The hot weather is drawing everyone to the beach – perfect for cooling off! But while it looks calm, hidden rips and channels are creating serious risks. We’ve already seen multiple incidents in recent weeks.

Weekday lifeguard patrols have started early due to increased incidents. This week the lifeguards are on patrol:

Mon–Fri: 1pm–7pm

Weekend: 10am–5pm

No excuses – swim between the flags for your after-school or after-work dip!

Top Safety Tips:

SWIM BETWEEN THE FLAGS – it’s the safest place to swim.

BE AWARE OF THE DANGERS – check for rips, currents, and rocks.

RELAX, RAISE & RIDE – if caught in a rip, float, signal for help, and ride it out.

CHAT TO LIFEGUARDS – we’re here to help.

KEEP CHILDREN WITHIN ARM’S REACH – always supervised by an adult.

KNOW YOUR LIMITS – if in doubt, stay out.

DON’T SWIM ALONE – the ocean is different from a pool.

BE SUNSMART – and stay hydrated.

DIAL 111 – if in trouble and no lifeguards are around.
