As a club we must provide one official for every ten athletes who compete at an event, this includes summer events as well as Pool Rescue in the winter months.

Becoming an official is not as daunting as it might seem and it’s a great way to get a front row seat at your child’s surf sports event. Officials are required to complete a short online course followed by some hands on practical shadowing at local and regional events.

Official roles can include starting and finishing races, marshalling and refereeing races. You can start with level 1 and stay there if you wish, but there are opportunities for more senior officiating roles which can take you to national and even international events.
