200m Safety Badge

All under 9 Junior Surf participants who wish to paddle foam boards (also called knee boards) are required to complete a 200m safety badge test before the start of the season. For those who do not have the badge, they can still partake in other water activities including body boarding.

For the under 10 and above age groups, if they do not have the 200m badge they will be required to join the under 9 age group during water activities.

To complete the badge, participants must swim 200m in a pool unaided in under 7 minutes, followed by 1 minute of treading water unaided.

Members of either Bartlett’s Swim School or the Papamoa Swimming Club can ask their instructor to assess them and give them a certificate of completion. A scanned or photographed copy of this can be emailed to admin@papamoalifeguards.co.nz

Badge Testing Sessions

Those unable to complete the badge at their swimming club/school can attend one of the Papamoa SLSC sessions at Bartlett’s Swim School.

These will be held on 30th October and 20th November between 2-3pm. There is no need to book, just turn up. If we are still at Covid alert level 2, please follow Bartlett’s level 2 protocols which include: only one adult per child in the building, wear a mask, social distance and scan in.
