Beach Wheelchair Provides Family Fun in the Surf

25 Jan

Did you know there are two beach wheelchairs available at the Pāpāmoa Surf Club for public use?

It was wonderful to see one of them being used by this lovely lady and her daughter.

Lifeguard Janine Bollee said neither of them were expecting to go in the water that day as they didn't realise we had a chair to enable them to experience the thrill of being in the surf.

“Seeing her enjoyment with her daughter in the water was an absolute joy. This is why we volunteer, for moments like these,” said Janine.

A huge thank you to Papamoa Rotary who donated the beach wheelchair several years back – what a difference it makes for people like this.

We have a second beach wheelchair available which is a slightly different design and more suitable for children or smaller adults (see image below).

If you’d like to use either of the chairs, just ask one of the lifeguards and they can get it out for you. If it’s outside of patrol hours, please phone the office on 07 542 2122.
