A big shout out to all our wonderful volunteer lifeguards and patrol support who give up their precious summertime year after year to keep the Pāpāmoa community safe on the beach.

A special thank you to one of our youngest lifeguards, Jamie Cabusao, who racked up a whopping 109 volunteer hours last season – the highest number of volunteer lifeguard hours for the 2022/2023 season.

For 16 year old Jamie, who has been a member of the Pāpāmoa SLSC for 10 years, he remembers the old club rooms. “I remember hanging out with my mum on patrol and I loved it all, from Junior Surf and Rookies to lifeguarding,” he says.

Jamie just loves hanging out with his friends. “What I love most about lifeguarding is being at the beach with my friends. I would highly recommend being a Surf Lifeguard. You get to try lots of things and meet lots of people. Make sure you make the most of all the opportunities.”

We’re proud to call Jamie a Pāpāmoa clubbie and he has big aspirations for the future. “I would like to be a Regional Guard, an Instructor at Intermediate Lifeguard School, a Patrol Captain and I would like to attend BP Leaders for Life and National Lifeguard School,” he says.

All the best Jamie and thank you to each and every lifeguard for the vital work you do on our 14km stretch of beautiful coastline. Whether it’s volunteering for a few hours or over a hundred, we appreciate you all.
