Patrol Support is the perfect way to play a vital role in keeping our beaches safe throughout summer, without getting in the water. It’s ideal for those who want to contribute to beach safety or are working towards becoming a fully qualified surf lifeguard but haven’t yet met the swimming requirements.
Patrol Support members work alongside lifeguards to help with tasks such as:
- Setting up and packing down patrols, including IRBs (Inflatable Rescue Boats)
- Actively patrolling between the flags with lifeguards
- Monitoring from the tower
- Roaming the beach outside the patrol area in ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles)
- Assisting with preventative actions
- Providing first aid support as needed
Patrol Support members are certified to assist with key lifeguarding duties on the beach. They are considered an extension to the minimum number of lifeguards required on patrol (as per the Patrol Operations Manual).
